That's me and my husband! |
Art is, to put it lightly, a compulsive hobby of mine. Most of my hobbies seem to be like that, come to think of it.
Art has been second nature to me, I was always drawing something - on the walls, in my books, and eventually on paper. It gave me an outlet to put my dreams on paper, and it kept me busy and generally out of trouble :p
By age ten, I was busy learning to draw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and sneaking my sister's anatomy book to study in the middle of the night. There were a couple of short-lived comics in those days, but nothing survived my angsty years of middle- and high-school.
I took at least one art class every semester through high school, and continued studying on my own time, as well. I've studied art at the college level, where I found I really enjoyed figure drawing and art history. Ultimately, I realized that I wasn't happy as an art major and decided to change directions. I left behind a half-finished art degree and turned to computers, receiving an Associates in Computer Science in December 2003.
Professionally, I'm a COBOL mainframe programmer with DST Systems in Kansas City, MO. Habitually, I'm a compulsive weekend artist just trying to scrape time together to work on another picture or three. I also have that webcomic that I try to keep updating. The rest of my free time is divided among my husband, family, playing my viola, reading, writing, playing video and computer games, poking around the Internet, and aerobic kickboxing. But not necessarily in that order...
I got married in November, 2008, joining myself to the Zastrow family, and they to the Mayo family. Now we're one big happy, if slightly crazy, family :)
